🦊 1 Peter 5 5 Commentary

Inharmony with 1 Peter 5:2. "The last thing Peter could have dreamed of as possible would be its misapplication to himself or his so-called successors" (Cook). Compare Hebrews 13:20, great Shepherd; and John 10:11, John 10:14, good Shepherd. Also, Ezekiel 34:15, Ezekiel 34:16, Ezekiel 34:23. Ye shall receive. See on receiving, 1 Peter 1:9. Verses1-14. Chapter 5. THE ELDERS OF THE CHURCH (1 Peter 5:1-4)5:1-4 So, then, as your fellow-elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as a sharer in the glory which is going to be revealed, I urge the elders who are among you, shepherd the flock of God which is in your charge, not because you are coerced into doing so, but of your own free-will as Chapter1. THE GREAT INHERITANCE ( 1 Peter 1:1-2 ) 1:1-2 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to God's Chosen People, who are scattered as exiles throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia. I am an apostle, and you are chosen, according to the fore-knowledge of God, through the consecration of the Spirit, for obedience and to be 1 Humility in service of one another. " Yea, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to serve one another: for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble." Peter now turns to all of them, i.e. both the elders and the younger (people), and with a certain emphasis sums up their duties in humility. 1Peter 5:11 To Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen. (NASB: Lockman) Greek: auto to krato s eis tou s aionas; amen.. Amplified: To Him be the dominion (power, authority, rule) forever and ever.Amen (so be it). (Amplified Bible - Lockman)KJV: To him [be] glory and dominion for ever and ever.Amen. (based on Textus Receptus which has Amen( 1 Peter 5:11 ). And so he ends his little epistle with this doxology. And now the rest is just sort of personal notes. By Silas, a faithful brother unto you, as I suppose, I have written ( 1 Peter 5:12 ), So Silas, who was the companion of Paul on many of Paul's missionary journeys, is now a companion of Peter. 1Peter 5:5-6. 5 In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”. 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Read Chapter Compare. Commentaryon 1 Peter 5:1-4 (Read 1 Peter 5:1-4) The apostle Peter does not command, but exhorts. He does not claim power to rule over all pastors and churches.
